Chilly temperatures on Tuesday, October 15, enabled the snowmaking team at Killington Resort, Vermont, to turn on the snow guns for the first time for the 2024-25 winter season.

The team completed a โ€œlong duration system testโ€, firing about a dozen of its new HKD Phazer guns on โ€˜Upper Superstar.โ€™ The HKD Phazer is designed to operate in tight spaces that require narrow directional throw such as cat tracks, lift terminals, and nordic trails.

The test was successful, however a warmup in the coming days means this will not be a push towards opening. The team will stay vigilant and fire up the guns again when temperatures allow.

Opening day at Killington Resort is still to be determined at this time. ย In the meantime, enjoy the photo series and start scraping off that storage wax!
