[PHOTOS] Utah Department of Transportation Releases Renderings of What Little Cottonwood Canyon Gondola Would Look Like

Last Wednesday, the Utah Department of Transportation approved a plan that will allow construction of the world’s longest gondola, running from the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon to the town of Alta. As one could imagine, the already prominent divisiveness within Utah’s ski and snowboard community regarding the gondola ignited like kerosene thrown on an open flame; people either love it or they hate it.

Amidst growing controversy, UDOT has recently released renderings of what the gondola would look like once constructed, showing large cabins holding up to 35 people cruising through the open air of the canyon along its system of lift towers. Looking at the images, the gondola’s design is streamlined and clean; slim, spaced-out steel gondola towers connect eight-mile-long cables that carry 945 skiers and snowboarders from its base station to the town of Alta every 55 minutes.
