As of yesterday, Palisades Tahoe, California, had over two feet (26 inches) of May snow, prompting the National Weather Service in Reno to issue a rare Winter Storm Warning in May.

This late-season snowfall has pushed the resortโ€™s total snowfall to 423 inches, surpassing its average yearly snowfall of 400 inches. The unexpected powder has allowed Palisades Tahoe to extend its ski season, with the resort now open seven days a week for skiing and riding through Memorial Day.

โ€œAccording to Mother Nature, the saying now goes, โ€˜April showers bring May POWDERโ€™!โ€ the resort announced in a statement.

Palisades Tahoe is known as the Spring Skiing Capital of Lake Tahoe, and this yearโ€™s extended season is a testament to the resortโ€™s reputation. Due to the new snowfall, the resortโ€™s signature spring event, the 38th annual Cushing Crossing pond skim, has been pushed back from May 4 to May 11.

Skiers and riders are encouraged to check the resortโ€™s live webcams and operations blog for the latest updates on conditions and events.
