Saddleback Mountain, Maine, will be reopening the Rangeley, South Branch, and Kennebago Quads tomorrow, Friday, December 8, 2023, at 9 a.m. Saddleback Mountain, located in Western Maine outside the town of Rangeley, had opened last weekend for a โweekend previewโ but closed again during the week to get more terrain ready. Opening weekend the resort had 10 of its 68 runs open and three out of six lifts spinning.ย
The 18 inches of snow received this past Sunday into Monday, plus ongoing snowmaking, has helped the mountain crew prepare almost 100% of the mountain, including Casablanca and the majority of the resortโs expert terrain.
โThanks to consistent cold temps and low winds, the snow is sticking like a fluffy blanket, especially in the woods. Itโs important to note that even if it looks like a winter wonderland, please ski with caution. Early season conditions and hazards exisit.โ
The Saddleback Mountain Patrol will be making updates throughout the day tomorrow so itโs best to visit the Saddleback Mountain website for the latest openings and closures. There will be active snowmaking on Grey Ghost and Wheeler. Uphill travel to the Kennebago is permitted, but please proceed with caution.
โMother Nature has been good to us so far, but we are looking at potential wet weather coming in Sunday into Monday. Itโs looking like temps will warm up and we may see some wind and rain, ending as 1-3โโ of snow on Monday. So, if youโre ready to get your ski legs back, Friday and Saturday are the picks of the weekend!โ
Saddleback Mountain was established in the 1960s and was family owned and operated for many years. After running into financial difficulties, the resort shut in 2015 and did not reopen until 2020, when the resort was bought by Boston-based fund Arctaris Impact Fund. Since then, Arctaris has invested heavily into snowmaking and lift infrastructure and the resort has seen steady growth since reopening in the middle of the Covid-pandemic.
