Placer County Sheriffโs Office has confirmed a shooting took place near the Olympic Village Inn at Palisades Tahoe, California, on Friday morning, January 26, 2024.
The Sheriffโs Office confirms that the shooting involved California State Park Peace Officers. According to their press release, a State Park Peace Officer attempted to stop a vehicle around 10 a.m. on Friday. The vehicle was believed to be involved in a carjacking in Tahoe City. After a slew of irratic driving, the driver crashed the white pick-up truck near the Olympic Valley Inn at Palisades Tahoe. The subject exited the vehicle armed with a knife and an officer-involved shooting took place involving the State Park Peace Officer, just as a California Highway Patrol officer arrived to assist. Officers provided medical aid to the subject, but despite their efforts the subject succumbed to his injuries.
Placer County Sheriffโs Office asks people to please stay clear of the area. While the situation is stable, investigations are ongoing. State Parks is cooperating with Placer County Sheriffโs Office, the agency responsible for conducting the investigation.
The hotel is located on Chamonix Place in Olympic Valley within walking distance from ski lifts at Palisades Tahoe ski resort. The hotel later on Friday confirmed that a shooting involving police offers had taken place in a neighboring parking lot at Olympic Village Events Center & Corporate Offices. The actual hotel and hotel guests were not involved and all Olympic Village Inn guests are safe.
The deceased has been identified as 29-year-old Vinton Jay Miller from Jamaica. Miller has been confimed to be working at Palisades Tahoe Resort as line cook. State Parks said in a statement on Friday afternoon that they believed the man was involved in an earlier carjacking in Tahoe City, about 7 miles from the resort.
