Another year, another family ski week at Telluride!!!
February 19th – 24th, 2018
It was no secret that the San Juans were having a less than stellar winter for the 17/18 season but as luck would have it, upon arrival in Telluride, we were met with cold temps and daily accumulations of Colorado’s finest white gold. Ultimately, we endured great mornings on Chair 9 while timing the opening of Chair 15 for high speed, scenic, open bowl laps in the sun. At the end of the day, most of the mountain was open (other than the Gold Hill Chutes, Mountain Quail and Palymyra Peak)…thoroughly enjoying impeccably groomed steep runs like Bushwacker and the Plunge to name a few. Of course, regular visits to Giuseppe’s and a sunny lunch at Bon Vivant can only improve a day on the hill.
Highlights of the trip included a few days of fresh tracks on Revelation Bowl with hoot and hollering embedding the wintery atmosphere. Also, the 9 year old enjoyed exploring runs like Cat’s Paw on Chair 8 to Runaway Train off Chair 10 and everything else in between. Temperatures were coldโฆlike 6F cold. However, this kept the fresh snow in stellar shape and the NASTAR course even fasterโฆthe ideal conditions for true sibling skiing rivalry.
Part of the mountain, certain run or area not included in this report? No problem.ย Check out 2017, 2016, 2015 & 2014.
Flying through Los Angeles is always a sight to be seenโฆ
Long story short, after some mechanical issues that delayed us by a day, we finally gazed upon the San Juansโฆ
On Day One, skiing with my son, we were greeted by the snow godsโฆ
Being a bit protected by the weather, we decided to stick to Chair 9 for most of the morningโฆ
The snow was accumulating nicely and we were working up an appetiteโฆ
Alright, now its time to warm up the body and the bellyโฆ
The next morning, Revelation Bowl was the place to beโฆ
Wide open terrain, new snow and some sun? Ok, I’ll bite.
Of course, we ended up taking multiple laps skiing all aspects of the bowlโฆ
After heading down Little Rose, we found some nice turns in the gladesโฆ
After a great day on the hill, its time to head into town for some dinnerโฆ
The following day, mom joined us and ended up totally slaying the pisteโฆ
Palmyra Peak even made an appearanceโฆ
Why not a few sunny laps in Revelation Bowl?
Not a bad place to load onto a chairliftโฆ

There’s a reason they call this run See Foreverโฆ

Pro tip: Each day they groom something steep off Chair 9โฆ

Remember, you can ski right to Alpino Vino off See Foreverโฆ
Nothing better than a classic triple chairโฆ
Windbuff and minimal mogulsโฆworks for this old guy!
On the first day, I met Zachโฆa skier from Los Angeles who loves Moment Skis and Telluride. Thus, we became best friends instantly.
C’mon, look excited for a hot chocolate! I’m writing a blog!
Some hot minestrone soup has never tasted so goodโฆ
After a bolt of sugar to his system, the little guy slayed Bushwacker without stoppingโฆ
Over on Chair 12, far off Genevieve, I found my lost GoPro from the day priorโฆWINNING!
Gold Hill has some steep terrain below Dynamoโฆ
]Yeah, you need to make sure you eat lunch hereโฆ
Nice views of Palmyra Peak!
Someone’s stoked on skiing Telluride!
The next morning, we had some freshies for family ski day!
Parker wasn’t far behindโฆ
Dad heads over to the walls of Happy Thought and finds some funโฆ
He then migrates over to check out Rockslide off of Ute Parkโฆ
It’s a fun little zone with steeps on the upper portionโฆ
Oh, I also found some untracked POWDER!
Chair 9 was looking stunning in a coat of whiteโฆ
Nothing better than yelling a conversation to the chair behind youโฆ
My daughter responded and said ‘SEE FOREVER TO NASTAR!’
However, Mom pulled a Shiffrin and beat all of to the courseโฆ
AND THEY’RE OFF!!!
After racing, my son and I took some laps in Prospect Trees off Chair 12โฆ
The little guy loves his narrow mogul runsโฆ
Near the end of the day, it was time to bring out the 21 month old!
Yes, he’s smiling but I believe its frozen that wayโฆ
When the oldest and the youngest go to battleโฆ
Then, on the final morning, all the cards lined up for a sunny mini-pow dayโฆ
Even the bumps looked tasty for this old manโฆ
We straightlined over to Upper Lookout and the wife was happy to get the token photo of the tripโฆ
So fresh and oh so cleanโฆ
Even the kids were getting into the stokeโฆ
It was one beautiful last day on the hillโฆ
Enjoyment on Chair 6 was also on the agendaโฆ
Of course, no day is complete without some Revy Bowlโฆ
Looking down in Bear Creek on a Winter dayโฆ
One last lap down Little Rose and it was pretty tasty if I may say soโฆ
What a perfect final day!!!!
And then it was a final race to the hotelโฆ
Remember when YOU used to do this? I sure do!
