Report from Dec. 3&4, 2022

Snow King Mountain, WY, is open for skiing and snowboarding (and general Tom-Foolery).

The Godfather ski area of Jackson town proper, Snow King opened 22/23 winter operations Saturday to clear, cold skies above a giddy-fresh powder blanket.

No stranger to wind-effect, the King’s snowpack is variable. But the happy icing here is the resulting twelve-plus inches of untouched powder snow that the wind had gathered along Wolverine. Truly outstanding.

Opening Day at a Jackson ski area, pristine powder snow and about a busload of people to enjoy it, maybe less; it’s a scenario straight outta daydream-land, except for the deep freeze inflicted upon our toes and nose tip.

Down home ‘chill’ and warm welcome despite the temps are mainstays of the much-beloved Snow King Mountain Resort, and they certainly were on display this weekend.

The spectrum of Snow King awesomeness includes Skiing & Snowboarding (naturally), Cowboy Coaster, and King Tubes. And right now, the resort has rolled out a discount rate for advanced pass purchases.

Plus “skinning the King” is a time-honored staple of Jackson snow culture.

Snow King offers 500 skiable acres and rises 1,500 vertical feet to roll out a slew of beginner and intermediate trails, all of which are mutually exclusive from the resort’s expert-level tree skiing and trails.

And the King is the spot for skiing past sunset, as the mighty resort will soon extend operations to 6:30 pm for skiing and snowboarding under the lights.

Be it a bright day with the kiddos, or an evening storm shred when the crew’s finished work, Snow King Mountain Resort has a lift saved for you.

Ski it cause you love it!
