Mother Nature continues her strike against Tahoe and while we did have the biggest storm of 2015 on Tuesday, the 2″ of new snow was not quite enough to hide the damage the sun has inflicted over the past month.ย You may be asking yourself “Is there snow in Tahoe still?” And yes, yes there is.ย The skiing is still surprisingly decent, with good coverage and fun turns above 7,000 feet.ย All of the Shirley Lake tree runs are holding up quite nice, Granite Chief was put back on the schedule today for the first time in a long while, and the Belmont and Gold Coast parks continue to entertain.
The Good
- The first and third jumps in the Gold Coast park line
- Shirley Tree Runs 1-5
- Granite Chief is open again
- Squaw is still open
The Bad
- It simply will not snow in Tahoe
Mountain Run is starting to get quite thin in places, but with cold temperatures Squaw should be able to make some snow and freshen things up.ย Unfortunately Headwall has been closed for over a week now due to firm conditions, hopefully we can roll into a bit of a corn cycle once the 2″ of new snow sets up.
Is there snow in Tahoe?ย Yes.ย However, with the way things are trending it’s not looking good.ย But alas, rumor has it that two weeks out there is going to be a monster storm.ย Just like the rumors from the week before, and the week before that and… you get the picture.ย Wash your cars, sell your snow blower, burn some skis, maybe try to burn all your skis; we have to figure something out to get ‘ol mother nature back on our side in Tahoe.
something that would be helpful is for all the Bay Area people to stop driving their cars and start taking public transportation. Last time I was on the train it was empty and I was looking down at the highway when it was full.unless we do something to cool down at Pacific Ocean this is going to be the reality.
not to be the bearer of bad news but…that train has left the station. We as californians and in particular skiers are on the front line of this thing. We and all the creatures a good a truly fucked, just a lot sooner than i thought.
Quit bitching, we would kill for coverage like that on Mt. Hood.
It was a 4″ dump as everyone knows cause the text squaw sent out said so.
That 1st photo is plain wrong btw, that was taken early last june, bay area peeps know the coverage is way better than what that photo shows.
