Report from January 3rd, 2019
Snowbird Ski Resort, UT is big.
I found nearly every kind of skiing there is today: groomers, moguls, chalk, powder, tight chutes, wide open bowls, steeps.
The snow just stays good here.
Even on the groomers, skiers were throwing up huge plumes of white smoke today.
I cruised straight over to Mineral Basin to get into the sunshine and cranked a couple laps under the chair in chutes and chalky moguls – a run I’ve come to love this season.
I saw that the Baldy hike was open so I went for a stroll.
I found a tight, steep chute that had a mandatory air that was full of powder and only had one track in it.
I couldn’t pass it up.
The chuteย skied great and gave meย a bit of an adrenal gland massage.
From there I ripped another Mineral Basin chairline and cruised over to the front side.
Again, the snow was just good.
Soft, fun moguls.
Wide open groomers.
Fun steep runs like “Organ Grinder.”
Oh, and it finally warmed up today likely into the mid to high 30s and it felt great after so many days of single digits and teens…
Yes, Snowbird IS sweet! It gets this wild wrap from Big Cottonwood skiers about being agro and crowded but there is never anyone ever on the fun stuff. It’s just a big vert good time. Good work!
