Snowbird, UT, Report: 6 Inches Overnight, 6 Inches During The Day—March Madness in the Wasatch Goes Out With a Bang

Report from Saturday, March 30, 2024

On the mountain slopes they soar, slashing that snow so cold

Four slashers with their boards and skis, carving stories untold.

Through the powder they glide, with graceful might,

Leaving trails of joy, in the soft flat light.

Four slashers slashing, and they say not a word,

For the powder is much too good at the fabled Snowbird.

We awoke to six inches of new snow on the Mountain Report.

By the end of the day, another six inches had fallen, bringing the total to a foot.

The next day, Snowbird would end up finishing the month of March with 118″ of snowfall.

That’s two inches shy of 10 feet…

March Madness…

We got to the bypass road at 8 a.m., secured a great ski-in, ski-out parking space, and went over to pick up our passes.

The Snowbird staff were incredibly warm and friendly, appearing so stoked to host us at their mountain.

The stoke was mutual.

We got on one of the first chairs at Peruvian, took the tunnel at the top, and dropped into Mineral Basin on the backside.

It was powder.

Cold, deep, fluffy, powder.

We slashed into the fog.

The visibility was tough but the soft snow made up for it.

We hit a couple of laps in Mineral Basin, which skied super well.

From there it was time to hit the Cirque.

It’s always time to hit the Cirque.

We dropped to the left on Wilbere Bowl to more untouched powder.

Mikey went first, flanking left while I followed and hit a chute to the right.

It was fast, ferocious, and fluffy.

What a combo.

I got an untouched line down to the cat track over 1,000 feet below…

After that, we decided to go on a exploratory mission to the Fin.

We seasoned a cliff on the way, with Gage getting massively barreled in the powder, throwing snow high over his head.

Then we found the Fin which held the goods.

It was also untracked but deeper than the rest of what we had skied because of the protected snow in the trees.

We scored once again.

Unreal.

After a few more steep laps and some cliff hucks, we headed back to the car and had brews and a bite.

It was still snowing and coming down hard.

The sun didn’t rear its head today and we were just fine with that.

Briana and I went out for another couple of laps.

All of a sudden it was 3:45 and we couldn’t believe how fast the time had gone by.

Snowbird can be a bit of a warp hole on powder days.

At 3:55 we resolved for ‘two more laps, skip the last’.

Good choice.

The snow had refilled most of the tracks from the day, so we got some bonus pow.

All the way back to the car.

We were hungry, beat down, and tired from skiing the steep and deep all day.

But we still must have smiled all the way home.

That’s Snowbird for ya.
