
A 55-year-old male snowboarder from Hawaii lost his life at Park City Mountain, Utah, on Wednesday, March 19, after being discovered buried in snow on an intermediate trail. The incident occurred in the Canyons Village area of the resort, near the Alley run off the Super Condor Express lift.
Summit County Sheriffโs Office responded to reports of an injured snowboarder shortly before 11 a.m. Upon arrival, ski patrollers and a family member located and extricated the victim from the snow. The snowboarder was swiftly transported to the Canyons Village Base Clinic for emergency medical attention.
Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the on-site facility. While the exact circumstances leading to the snowboarderโs burial remain unclear, authorities have stated that there are no indications of avalanche activity in the area.
Deirdra Walsh, Vice President and COO of Park City Mountain expressed condolences on behalf of the resort team to the family and friends of the deceased, reports TownLift. The Summit County Sheriffโs Office echoed these sentiments and confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Park City had seen 12 inches of fresh snow yesterday morning, 48 inches in the previous seven days, 268 inches for the season, and has a 105 inch base.
The incident comes just days after a man died in similar circumstances at Mt. Bachelor, Oregon.
