Forecast Prepared at midnight MST, April 4, 2025

A storm moves across Southern Colorado on Friday and Friday night, producing snow across the Front Range and the San Juan Mountains but primarily hitting the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. This storm will close out one of the busiest weeks this year for the Southern Rockies. However, the outlook for April looks much less active, with mostly dry weather and warmer temperatures.

A low-pressure system has been stalled out around the Four Corners area for the last two or three days, but is finally set to move off on Friday. This system has already produced over a foot of snow at many of the Colorado resorts, but will provide one last burst of snow as it moves off to the east.

Snow showers will move down from the north on Friday morning before becoming more widespread after noon as spring-time convection generates additional instability and produces even more snow showers, some of which may be heavy. Expect snow showers across most, if not all, of the Southern Rockies today, but with an emphasis on the Sangre de Cristo Mountains that straddle Colorado and New Mexico. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains will get hit with more snow due to the flow of moisture coming out of the north and northeast. The bulk of this snow tapers off over the course of Friday night, with only some very spotty showers again on Saturday before the area dries out.

Resort Forecast Totals

  • Taos (NM) โ€“ 10โ€ณ โ€“ 18โ€ณ
  • A-Basin (CO) โ€“ 2โ€ณ-5โ€ณ
  • Winter Park (CO)  โ€“ 3โ€ณ-6โ€ณ
  • Telluride (CO) โ€“ 2โ€ณ-5โ€ณ
  • Wolf Creek (CO) โ€“ 2โ€ณ-5โ€ณ

Unfortunately, the pattern changes this weekend as a ridge of high pressure settles over the entire Western U.S. There may be one or two mediocre storms at some point over the next two weeks, but otherwise, it looks dry and warm through mid-to-late April.
