BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON, UTAH, Nov. 28, 2023 โ Solitude Mountain Resort is pleased to announce that Scott Cherry has joined its leadership team as the VP of mountain operations. Cherry comes to Solitude from Mammoth Mountain, where he was the director of slope maintenance. As the VP of mountain operations at Solitude, Cherry will oversee ski patrol, grooming, snowmaking, lift operations, fleet maintenance, and base area operations.
In addition to his extensive mountain operations experience spread across 18 years in the industry, Cherry has been directly involved with key terrain park projects such as the U.S. Grand Prix Olympic-qualifier slopestyle courses for the 2014, 2018, and 2022 Winter Olympic Games and the SNOWBOARDER Magazine Superpark at Mt. Bachelor (2013), Mt. Hood Meadows (2014), and Mammoth Mountain (2016 and 2017).
โScott comes to us with an inspiring breadth of experience, and we couldnโt be happier to have him leading our mountain operations team,โ says Amber L. Broadaway, Solitudeโs president and COO. โWe were impressed with what heโs accomplished at Mammoth Mountain, and we know he will be instrumental in writing the next chapter of Solitudeโs legacy.โ
This season, Solitude was the first Utah ski area to open for the 23/24 season, largely due to the diligence of the resortโs mountain operations team.
โThe Wasatch plays host to some of the best skiing and riding in the world, and I am beyond thrilled to be here in Utah. Solitude drew me in with its location, abundant snowfall, and big-time terrain,โ says Cherry. โIโve had the opportunity to work under some of the best in the industry, who encouraged me to always find a way to accomplish the impossible through teamwork and collaboration.โ
This role was previously held by Nate Lee, who retired from the position this summer after 28 years with Solitude Mountain Resort.
