Squaw Valley, CA Conditions Report: No Humans, Wet Snow, & Backflips

YESTERDAY:

First off all, let me say that yesterday was unreal.  Deep, good snow all over the east aspects.  Wind buffed snow on the west sides.  Hucking the Fingers.

Lift lines were long yesterday.  We skied KT-22 without stopping once and we got in 12 laps between 10am (KT’s opening time) and 3:30pm.

The skiing just didn’t ever get bad yesterday.  Nose to Fingers was good until 2:30pm.  Rock Garden/Dead Tree was terrific right until closing bell with the wind refreshing to smoothness every run.

Weather was stormy yesterday with low visibility, snow, and wind.

Squaw reported 15-19″ of snow yesterday morning.

Squaw ran KT-22, Red Dog, Far East, Squaw Creek yesterday.

TODAY:

Today was a completely different story.

No crowds at all.  Never waited in line once.  Safe to say that NOAA’s “CONSIDER NOT TRAVELING TODAY OR TONIGHT IN THE SIERRA. STAY HOME…STAY SAFE” freaked people out pretty well.

Today the snow was very heavy.  We were only sinking in an inch or two.

Anywhere the snow was fresh, the skiing was great.  Crossing tracks or skiing crud was a challenge.

It wasn’t too stormy/snowy today but the wind was ripping up top at times.  It did start to snow harder around 3pm.

We skied 10am to 1:30pm and mostly skied Red Dog Ridge.  Patrol was letting us walk up the ridge as far as Tom’s Tumble.

  1. Top stayed closed.
They better open more Tuesday or I’ll use one of my Squaw pass days at Sugar Bowl.
Sugar bowl had Disney and Lincoln running today. KSL, get your butt in gear.

  2. Miles, could you please give an explanation for the horrific article that was removed on lift closures? The readers need an explanation for that disgusting post as well as other posts that do not question KSL’s constant overcautiousness in refused to lift closures.

    1. Miles never mind this troll; Micheal is a conspiracy theorist that had nothing better to do than hate on decent blogs and logical though. Back under the table troll; let Miles
      blog in peace.
