Once a season, Squaw Valley’s finest skiers & riders show off their skills by attempting to skim across Lake Cushing. Costumes are worn and onlookers (including me) get soaked. Some cruise with ease, some wipe-out hard and get destroyed and some get about halfway and sink into the chilly waters.
It was a packed house under the shadow of the KT-22 chair. The sun was hot and the winds were as strong as 40 something competitors tried their luck . There were alpine skiers, bananas, cowboys, bartenders, furry animals, cans of energy drink and a few non dressed up yahoos all trying to sway the judges in their direction. One thing for sure, both the judges and announcers saw right through the disguises and the winners and losers were easily put in their rightful places.
