Our friend and Squaw Valley native Travis Ganong has gotten 5th place in the Olympic Men’s Downhill competition in Sochi. ย Travis was the highest placing American man. ย Bode Miller placed a strong 8th as well. ย This was Travis’ highest placement in international competition after his 7th and 8th place World Cup finishes this year.
Travis is a kid who grew up in Squaw Valley and has been racing since day one. ย Travis can also rip freeskiing. ย When he’s in town and freeskiing, he’s the best on the hill.
25-year-old Travis Ganong placed 5thย with a time of 2.06.64, 0.31 seconds shy of the bronze-medal time of Norway’s Kjetil Jansrud.
“It’s great. ย You can’t be that surprised with it because he’s been skiing great all year and he’s one of those guys who has confidence in his ability. He’ll go out and ski hard no matter what. He doesn’t surprise me that he’s in there. It’s a shock to some people, but I train with him all the time so I know how good he is.” – Bode Miller
Travis came into the Olympics ranked 18th in the World Cup standing in downhill and 36th overall. ย He’ll be racing again on Saturday in the Super G event in Sochi.
“I’ve been methodically building my career over the last four or five years in the World Cup and getting better and better each year and lowering my ranking and gaining more confidence. ย Now I’m at a point where I know my skiing’s good and I can be relaxed. That’s a really fun place to be because then you’re just having fun every race.” – Travis Ganong
Everyone here at SnowBrains.com sends a huge congratulations to Travis for his incredible 5th place finish. ย

Props Travis
NBC sucks, Travis beats Bode the US Men’s biggest ‘star’, and no airtime interview or congrats to Travis and the future face of US speed events, lame as f#%K.
great run Travis! he may have had the fastest lower section.
