Caltrans maintenance crews have been busy clearing Tioga Pass in California since April 15.
Caltrans shared a video showing the progress along Highway 120 W on Instagram and Twitter (X).
The video shared by Caltrans District 9 shows its maintenance crews utilizing a grader and a bulldozer to push the snow into manageable piles for the blower to remove it from the road.
The teams have nearly reached Saddlebag Lake Road near the eastern entrance to Yosemite.
According to the National Park Service (NPS), the Tioga Pass snowpack is average this year, however, the snowpack is but one of many factors influencing when the road opens.
Tioga Pass typically opens from around late May or early June, depending on progress.
In some years, Tioga Road opens to cycling one or more days before opening to vehicles. If this occurs in 2024, NPS will provide that information on its website.
