The Summit chairlift at Snow King Mountain, WY, has, in various incarnations, been transporting guests to the top of the Town Hill since the 1940s.ย And on Sunday, 28th March, it transported its final guests up before being ripped out and replaced by a new gondola over the summer.
The eight-passenger gondola was approved by the town of Jackson in Fall 2020, as well as a new chairlift on the backside of the mountain, opening up new terrain. The gondola will operate year-round for skiers, sightseers, and mountain bikers.
The Summit lift began as a single chair in the 1940s before being upgraded to a double by the end of the 1950s. In 1981 the lift was replaced with the existing Summit double chairlift.
The new gondola is expected to be operational for the start of the 21/22 winter season.
I sit and think about the old days when our only security was our mother’s hand and then a question comes to me … How did we survive??????
Whoa, that double was actually a replacement of an earlier chair? It reminds me of the doubles that Boreal (Hwy 80, Donner Summit) had in the 60’s.
