La Parva, Chile Conditions Report: After 51″ of New Snow No new snow since the light snowfall yesterday, but the high clouds broke early, the sun finally came out, and the low clouds hovered menacingly at about the altitude of Farellones. All lifts opened except Nevada (broke motor), with Las Aguilas being the last to open due to avalanche control. The packed base is between 70cm and 120cm, and is fairly evenly distributed. The Monster South American Storm Continues | Snow Totals & Photo Tour: The large storm originally forecast to drop 19-feet of snow on central Chile in 4 days is continuing today. So far, ski resorts are reporting numbers around 40-50″ of new snow from the past two days. Most of these ski resorts are terrible about reporting snow numbers, but we dug up everything we could find. This storm is big, it’s strong, and it’s forecast to stay around for a few more days. 19-FEET of Snow Forecast for Chile Next 4 Days! Whoa. Valle Nevado ski resort in Chile’s upper mountain is forecast to receive 19-Feet of Snow (232 inches) in the next 4 days according to snow-forecast.com. 19-feet of snow? In 4 days? Are you kidding me? Maybe this El Nino thing really is going to happen this year in South America. Central Chile has been in a drought for the past 7 years. Maybe this will be the year that hugely aids that drought situation and makes the skiing all time. Maybe this will be the year that everyone has been waiting for.
