Climate Change Largely to Blame as Study Shows Mountain Snow is on the Decline Across Western US Mountain snow is on the decline across the western US, and climate change is largely to blame, according to a new study, reports Buzzfeed. Scientists measured snowpack at nearly 700 sites spread across western mountain ranges over six decades, 1955 to 2016, and carried out many computer simulations of snowpack levels over time. Both the observations and modeling showed widespread […] Weather WeatherBrains | March 12, 2018 3 Comments

NASA and NOAA: 2014 Hottest Year on Record The year 2014 ranks as Earthโs warmest year since 1880, according to two separate reports by NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scientists. Excluding 1998, the 10 warmest years have all occurred since 2000. Since temperature records began in 1880, the global average has increased by 1.4ยฐ Fahrenheit. This trend is largely driven by the increase in carbon dioxide and other human emissions into the planetโs atmosphere. The majority of that warming has occurred in the past three decades. NOAA Predicts “Weak” El Niรฑo Event There is an approximately 50-60% chance of El Niรฑo conditions during the next two months, according to a report released by the Climate Prediction Center at the NOAA. NOAA states that ENSO(El Niรฑo/Southern Oscillation)-neutral conditions continue, with positive equatorial sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies continue across most of the Pacific Ocean. During December 2014, positive sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies decreased across the central and east-central equatorial Pacific. Weather ameliatraynor | January 20, 2015 0 Comments
