Everest Climbing Route To Change After 16 Sherpa Die in Avalanche Last April, 16 Sherpa died in a large avalanche while working on the traditional Everest climbing route. Video of the Massive Avalanche That Killed 15 People on Mt. Everest Early yesterday morning an avalanche came down on a group of Sherpa on Mt. Everest at around 21,000 feet. They were ascending the mountain to set up fixed ropes for the climbers they were assisting. The avalanche was massive and it took the lives of 15 of the Sherpa.
