Obergurgl, Austria Conditions Report: Spring Powder We went on a 2 day trip to the รtztal hunting for some spring powder in Obergurgl/Hochgurgl. Last weekend it snowed roughly 20 cm, so Obergurgl with it’s high elevation up to 3100m was the perfect place to go. Generally it’s been a low snow year in the southern Alps this season but above 2600m there are still great dry pow stashes to be found. Obergurgl offers a huge amount of terrain and amazing lift infrastructure giving access to seven huge bowls that have AK like terrain. Conditions Report Eike Poeppelmeier | April 14, 2016 0 Comments
Sun, Fun & Powder in Obergurgl, Austria December hasn’t really delivered the goods here in Austria but at higher elevations above 2400m there is a decent base and good snow conditions to be found. This doesnโt leave many options so we headed back to Obergurgl in the รtztal one of our favorite spots to ride easy access backcountry. The terrain is gnarly and there is a ton of options available with short hikes. Thursday during the day and evening there was significant precipitation in most of western Austria. Due to the high temperatures it rained up to 2400m. Above that it snowed about a good 10cms. […] Conditions Report Eike Poeppelmeier | December 20, 2014 0 Comments
Austria Conditions Report: Light, Dry, Cold Powder in Obergurgl With most Austrian lower elevation ski resorts still closed and waiting for more snow. We headed back to Obergurgl/Hochgurgl which is one of the 4 non Glacier ski resorts that are currently open in the country. We have had some colder temps and precipitation in most parts of the Alps and it looks like winter is coming and here to stay. The forecast a mix of sun and clouds left us hopeful to get some decent visibility. With a significant snowfall at higher elevations there were 20cms of fresh pow above 2500m at all aspects of the mountain […] Conditions Report Eike Poeppelmeier | December 10, 2014 0 Comments
Austria Conditions Report: Powder, Sun and Big Terrain November has been a very unusual month in Austria. It’s been the warmest November ever recorded in weather history (in 240 years). That of course meant close to no snow at all in the mountains except of course on the glaciers and at higher elevations above 2500m. So we have been waiting and praying for colder weather and snow. Temperatures have still been quit high but freezing level has dropped to about 2000m now in early December. On the 2nd of December it finally snowed a 10-15 cms mostly in the […] Conditions Report Eike Poeppelmeier | December 4, 2014 0 Comments
