Descending During the NorCal Drought @ Kirkwood – 01/18/14 Wow what a year eh? Not much has changed since my last update but the bottom line is that there is definitely some fun to be had in the Sierra Nevada Range. On January 11th, it actually snowed. Yes, those 4 inches made things steep and…well…a bit better than expected. Arrival at Kirkwood blessed us with a glimpse of winter. With temperatures in the 30s, a cool breeze, snow on the trees and crisp blue skies, it was shaping up to be a great late November, er January day. Given the lack of gnar on the slopes, I have been taking this opportunity to get my kids on the slopes. Parker, age 2, is pretty enthusiastic about wearing the gear, riding […] Conditions Report Casey Cane | January 24, 2014 5 Comments

Skier Visits Down 23% at the 3 Vail Ski Resorts in Tahoe: Kirkwood, Northstar, Heavenly โUnfortunately, conditions in Tahoe have been very poor with snowfall down approximately 85 percent relative to prior year, resulting in visitation and guest spending well below our expectations, which negatively impacted our overall revenue growth,โ Vail CEO Rob Katz said in a statement. Tahoe hasn’t really gotten any snow this year yet. That has obviously translated into poor skier visit number in Tahoe this year. Compared to last year, skier visits are down 23.4% at Vail’s Lake Tahoe ski resorts: […] Industry News SnowBrains | January 21, 2014 2 Comments

Well, at least we have something right? A few days ago, I was able to head up to Kirkwood and get the legs burning but also pleasantly surprised to find some quality skiing. Off of Chair 5, Lower Zach’s and Outlaw were blissful packed powder corduroy and perfect to burn off the summer rust of your edges. They were blowing a ton of snow on Chair 6 and it looks like they will be opening Zachary tomorrow morning. Not sure if […] Conditions Report Casey Cane | December 13, 2013 2 Comments
Keep Tahoe True: Kirkwood, CA | by Powder Magazine Tahoe is changing fast. Vail has bought 3 of our major resorts (Kirkwood, Heavenly, Northstar), KSL has bought 2 others (Squaw & Alpine), and they are both changing how Tahoe is operated and perceived by the outside world (Vail will most likely buy Squaw/Alpine from KSL soon). Powder Magazine thinks that it’s important that Tahoe keeps it’s California style. In support of this, they’re publishing a 4 part series called “Keep Tahoe True.” This is part 2. โWhen I turned 16, I sold my truck […] SnowBrains | December 9, 2013 1 Comment
