It Snowed In Hawaii Yesterday!

Snow on 13,800 Mauna Kea in Hawaii yesterday.

On Thursday night, July 16th, a thunderstorm dropped about 2 inche of snow on the summit of Hawaii’s tallest peak, 13,800-foot Manuna Kea. Snow on 13,800 Mauna Kea in Hawaii yesterday.The snow stayed on the ground until midday Friday (yesterday). Hawaii gets snow just about every year, but nearly always in the winter. That said, National Weather Service meteorologitst Maureen Ballard says that snow can fall on the summit of Mauna Kea any time of the year.

The Big Island of Hawaii got about 8″ of snow last week. Skiers and snowboarders in the area made their way up onto 13,700-foot Mauna Kea and got after it. Some of the boys made a jump over the road and hit road gaps all day. These guys jumped over the road, over cars in the road and even over cops. A few of the boys sent flips and had some fun. This is still fun. This is still frustrating. NOAA has issued a Blizzard Warning for Hawaii today while the West Coast braces for record high temperatures this week. The Big Island of Hawaii is expecting 3-5 more inches of snow today for a potential snow total of 5-8″. Yes, you can ski on Hawaii. Skiing Mauna Kea is very real.
