Las Lenas usually stays open until mid-October. That said, Las Lenas hasn’t had enough snow to stay open until mid-October is years. Lenas nearly closed on September 8th this year. They had a very rough season with no snow and lots of heat before a big storm rolled in in early September and extended the season by 2 weeks. Thanks Mother Nature. VIDEO: Heli Skiing From a Chairlift @ Las Lenas, Argentina… This is a video of skiing on the big epic pow day of September 4th, 2014. It shows some of the lines where I have been trying to improve my skiing by chilling with the Catalans, mostly adri Millan. But also Txema trull, Alejo Sanchez, and Mike Hamilton were there on this amazing day. It shows a bunch of runs on cerro fosiles, accessed by a chairlift. And this video should help give you some insight into why I love it here in Argentina so much, because things like this are fun. Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: “Spring Has Sprung” It’s crazy to think spring is already here in Argentina. The trees are flowering, birds are chirping everywhere, and green leaves are unfurling. We had a big snowstorm last week that delivered 8 days of great powder skiing. The backcountry has been incredible. Temperatures have been getting warmer each day this week with today being toasty. We’ve had just enough freeze-thaw cycles now to develop some good corn. Today, you could rip hard on any part of the mountain. There was no one at the hill and the Mothership, Nubes chair, once again proved its meddle. Cranking laps on Nubes all day is enough to make anyone exhausted. Nubes did […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | September 17, 2014 0 Comments
VIDEO: Backcountry Backflips in Big Patagonia Terrain I think it’s safe to say we just had the best week of the season here at Catedral ski resort in Bariloche, Argentina. On Monday, September 7th, the storm came in strong enough to close the mountain entirely. It was cold and windy storm that snowed to the bottom of the mountain. Spots in La Laguna had over 5 feet of snow laying around. I’d say that in general, the upper mountain got about 2 feet of quality snow. Tuesday was good in bounds. […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | September 15, 2014 0 Comments
Las Lenas, Argentina Conditions Report: Backcountry Powder for Days Las Lenas ski resort in Argentina was going to close on September 8th due to a major lack of snow. Then it snowed 5-feet. Now, Lenas is officially staying open past the 15th. They say they will extend on a day by day basis, but I guess they will be open till the 22nd. Conditions in Lenas have been fantastic since the big storm in early September. There is plenty of snow up high, and we’ve had plenty of sunny windless days. Everyone has been getting after it, and all the high […] Conditions Report Lee Lyon | September 14, 2014 0 Comments
Bariloche, Argentina Conditions Report: “Big September Powder” We’ve been waiting for a while for a big powder day here in Bariloche, Argentina. A big storm rolled in late Sunday night with big snow, big wind, and big cold. Snow levels dropped into town and the wind was ripping. The wind ripped hard enough to close Catedral ski resort all day yesterday. This morning, the wind died down just enough for Catedral to get many of the upper mountain chairs open. It was cold, windy, and visibility was tough in during […] Conditions Report Miles Clark | September 9, 2014 3 Comments
