Squaw Valley Report: The RETURN of Winter Old Man Winter actually decided to make an appearance in Tahoe Easter Sunday, and delivered a tasty 4-10″ of fresh at Squaw Valley. With the new snow and cold temperatures today, the skiing stayed ripping all day with Siberia and the Reverse Traverse holding the best turns of the day. In the afternoon the winds picked up as the approaching storm rolled in, making for some smooth wind buff turns in Siberia Bowl. Patrol also gave us The Palisades at around 1:30 (after the Reverse Traverse crowds died down), and National Chute held some nice fresh turns. Main Chute closed shortly after opening, and Extra […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | April 6, 2015 3 Comments
Is There Snow In Tahoe? Squaw Valley Conditions Update + Photo Tour Mother Nature continues her strike against Tahoe and while we did have the biggest storm of 2015 on Tuesday, the 2″ of new snow was not quite enough to hide the damage the sun has inflicted […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | January 31, 2015 4 Comments
April Fools: It Snowed In Tahoe, A Lot! Squaw Conditions Update Video + Photo Tour This year Mother Nature takes home the win for best April Fools Day joke we’ve ever seen. Don’t let it snow in Tahoe all year, and when it does make it rain up to 7000′ every time. But on April Fools Day, open the skies up and let it dump 2+ feet in the basin. Well played Mother Nature, well played. The deepness of the pow at Squaw yesterday […] Conditions Report Eric Bryant | April 2, 2014 1 Comment
Dust On Crust On Corn | Squaw Conditions Update + Video After rain to the top two nights ago followed by a light dusting of snow last night, conditions at Squaw were some classic dust on crust today. Yesterday lifts were on Patrol Hold in the AM due to conditions that were simply too firm and fast, but the inch and a half of snow we received over night was just […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | March 7, 2014 0 Comments
Sleeper Powder Day: Squaw Conditions Update + Photo Tour If you hoot and holler but no one is at Squaw Valley to hear it, do you really make a sound? That’s the question that came to mind yesterday as Squaw was EMPTY…and with over a foot of fresh on the ground conditions were GREAT. The morning started off a little slow with the upper mountain on stand by, but KT was holding some deep pockets, and harbored no line. And by the time a […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | February 28, 2014 3 Comments
Granite Chief Peak + Palisades + High Winds: Squaw Conditions Update With Granite Chief added to the lineup of chairs today, the skiing was ripping and the crowds were conspicuously absent. Not only was Granite Chief added to the quiver, but Patrol also opened up Granite Chief Peak and Palisades (despite some very high winds on the hike up the Palisades). Granite was skiing great all the way from Split Tree […] Conditions Report Eric Bryant | February 13, 2014 4 Comments
5+ Feet Of Snow and Big Avalanches: Squaw Photo And Video Conditions Update We were all wondering if the reports from Squaw could be true, with rampant rumors of 5+ feet of snow for the upper mountain after this past storm. After closing on Sunday due to heavy rainfall, the doubts were even greater but today we were able to get into the upper mountain and we certainly received every bit of the 5+ feet. Shirley Chutes were almost buried, no more bushes sticking out, and huge slide paths were everywhere[…] Conditions Report Eric Bryant | February 11, 2014 6 Comments
Squaw Conditions: Sleeper Pow Day With Freezing Snain And Milky Pow While the storm didn’t quite produce the totals we were hoping for yesterday at Squaw, things were still skiing quite well. With 3-5 inches of new snow over night, and some wind to smooth things out the skiing in Shirley lake was most ripping. And, Patrol opened up Rainbow Bowl for the first time […] Conditions Report SnowBrains | February 7, 2014 1 Comment
