Sometimes large restoration projects can overshadow the daily efforts of everyday people working to protect Lake Tahoe. From hosting trash cleanups to installing erosion control measures, individualsโ actions can collectively have a huge impact on the environment. Awards recognizing people exhibiting a special dedication to conserving the lake are now open for nominations. The 2023 Lake Spirit Awards will honor those committed to a spirit of cooperation and protecting Lake Tahoe.
โIt takes real people making real progress to ensure Lake Tahoe remains sustainable, healthy, and safe for the community and future generations,โ said Julie Regan, executive director of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA). โThe Lake Spirit Awards are our way of celebrating people making a difference every day.โ
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency leads the cooperative effort to preserve, restore, and enhance the Lake Tahoe Regionโs unique natural and human environment while improving local communities and peopleโs interactions with our irreplaceable environment.
TRPA created the Lake Spirit Awards in 2011 to recognize individuals showing exceptional commitment to the Tahoe Basin. To honor regular citizens and environmental professionals who go above and beyond the call of duty to protect the Lake Tahoe Basin, there are two categories of nominees: Tahoe Citizens and Agency Representatives / Environmental Scientists. A winner from the North Shore and South Shore will be selected in each category.
The nomination form for the Lake Spirit Awards can be found online at www.trpa.gov/how-we-operate/awards/#spirit. Nominations will be accepted through Friday, April 28, 2023.ย The TRPA Governing Board will recognize Lake Spirit Award winners at its May meeting.
