Italian snowmaking equipment manufacturer TechnoAlpin has officially launched a fully electric snowcat through its subsidiary xelom at its headquarters in Bolzano/Bozen, South Tyrol in Italy, on Wednesday, May 22. The first electric snowcat was delivered to the Dutch indoor ski center Snow World Zoetermeer earlier this year, in April 2024.
With a charging time of just two hours, the electric snowcat offers a sustainable solution for ski resorts worldwide and is vital to achieving zero emissions. Many ski resorts are targeting zero emissions in the near future but snowcats were often the last fossil-fuel-dependant equipment still in use after switching lift operations to solar and wind power. The xelom snowcat can run for up to five hours on a single charge, enabling resorts to efficiently and sustainably prepare and groom resort trails.
Up until recently, the Prinoth Husky was the only electric snow groomer in series production, but the company is starting to have competition from several others, such as incumbents like Pistenbully with the Pistenbully E 100 and now Xelom. With a partner like TechnoAlpin behind them, xelom will quickly become a staple in ski resorts worldwide.
