December was ultra-dry in the mountainous heart of Europe, causing ski sales to drop considerably compared to last years’.
Ski resorts in Switzerland have seen a big drop in visitors on the slopes so far this season due to the lack of snow, official figures show. Meanwhile, some French regionsย wereย declared drought zones, forcing resorts toย switch off their snow cannons.
A colder January is improving conditions, with some snow last week and forecast for the next 3 to 6 days looking good.ย Still, Europe is facing a really sadย start of the season and if they don’t get buried in snow soon, this will be a year they will want to forget.
