The Freeride World Tour was scheduled to begin on January 13-18 at Kicking Horse Resort in British Columbia, Canada, but has since been postponed to February. Recent updates on snow conditions led the FWT and the Local Organization Committee to move the competition to February 17-22, 2023.

Kicking Horse Mountain Resort has received lower amounts of snow than expected and has experienced colder-than-average temperatures. These weather events combined with significant wind earlier in the season have combined to create terrain deemed unsafe for venue setup and have not made any rideable lines for the athletes.ย

Kicking Horse is expecting a change in the weather patterns in the near future, but there is too much uncertainty to keep the original dates. Potential unknown avalanche concerns led Mike Rubenstein, Kicking Horse Mountain Resort Area Manager to state, โ€œWith safety as our number one concern, we feel the right decision is to postpone the competition dates.โ€

With the postponement, the FWT will now kick off in Baqueira Beret on January 28th, 2023, with the Baqueira Beret Pro event. THE CUT will take place after the third event, and athletes can qualify for the finals with results from two of the first three stops.ย

The new FWT calendar will be as followed

  • Baqueira Beret Pro, Spain โ€“ January 28 – February 2
  • Ordino Arcalรญs Pro, Andorra โ€“ February 4 – 9
  • Kicking Horse Pro, Canada โ€“ February 17 – 22
  • Fieberbrunn Pro, Austria โ€“ March 11 – 17
  • Xtreme Verbier, Switzerland โ€“ March 25 – April 2
