HARBOR SPRINGS, Mich. (December 20, 2024) – The Highlands is pleased to announce the grand opening of the resort’s new Interconnect chairlift, enhancing access to the resort’s north end. This marks the second major upgrade in two years. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place today, Friday, December 20, at 11:00 a.m., with the lift opening to the public immediately afterward.
The new Interconnect lift, a Doppelmayr fixed-grip triple, significantly improves the guest experience. Highlights of the new lift include:
- A quicker ascent, reducing lift time by a third allowing for more time on the slopes
- Direct access to 14 runs, mostly intermediate-rated terrain in the North Peak area
- Modern conveniences, including RFID gates for seamless direct-to-lift access and a height-adjustable loading carpet suited for children and adaptive riders
- Comfort and safety features, with bench-style seating, safety bars, and footrests
“The new Interconnect lift is a testament to our ongoing efforts to innovate and provide a premier skiing and riding experience at The Highlands,” said Mike Chumbler, president and general manager at The Highlands. “With the most advanced features and modern comforts, guests can look forward to an enjoyable journey from base to peak.”
The new Interconnect lift follows the recent unveiling of Camelot 6, the Midwest’s first six-person bubble chairlift and fastest lift in Michigan, which opened last winter season. The lift enhancements are integral to the resort’s Transformational Journey, guiding growth and guest experience improvements through the year 2030.
