This weekend, Palisades Tahoe, CA will once again host the annual Cushing Crossing pond skim, one of their signature spring events that draws huge crowds, outrageous costumes and hilarious antics, all in the name of Spring Skiing fun.ย It’s the first time since 2019 that the event has gone ahead.

This year marks the 30th year of the Cushing Crossing, said to be the original pond skimming event that started what is now a spring ritual at ski resorts all across the country. Pond skimming is a contest where contestants attempt to ski across a body of waterโ€”in Palisades Tahoesโ€™s case the natural Cushing Pond, rather than a manmade troughโ€”and make it to the other side unscathed. Guests wait all year for this event, which is truly a fan-favorite.

This year, contestants will vie for a chance at pond skim glory, along with some amazing prizes from Yeti,ย Phunkshun Wear, and Dakine. The overall winner will receive a 2022/2023 Ikon Pass and $500 cash. Registration is first come first served, and a unique part of this event is that it pits everyday skiers and riders against elite athletes, but truly anyone has a chance to win. Registration costs $20 and will be held at Wildflour on Friday, April 15th at 10 am.

The Cushing Crossing will be held onย Sunday, April 17th, 1pm.ย Stick around immediately after the Cushing Crossing awards for a FREE Spring Tracks concert on the KT Deck with performances by G. Love & DJ Logic.

Sticks and stones will break your bones, but words will… make me cry like a millennial.
