I drove over Tioga Pass today around 12:30pm. I didn’t have time to ski but did have time to stop and scope out Ellery Bowl. Things are melting fast on Tioga and you can only fully ski down right now on the far skiers left.
I skied Chute Out last Friday and it was still good but you can’t ski the very upper section now. It’s all rocks.
Poop Chute still goes from top to bottom but the conditions in the chute look bumpy.
If you’re thinking about easy touring to good skiing from your car on Tioga Pass, Ellery Bowl is the spot. Ellery only has another week or so before it gets melted out and sun cupped.
After Tioga Pass I enjoyed views of Half Dome and a quick cliff jumping session at Rainbow Pools. The water is muddy, which I’ve never seen before and it’s damn warm for Rainbow Pools. The waterfall is weak right now so you can swim straight at it, dive down, go under the smashing water, and pop up behind the falls. Fun.
