Report from April 23, 2024
(If you are interested in skiing Alaska in 2025 with Miles please email us at contact@snowbrains.com, thanks ๐
Yesterday was one for the record books.
Well, maybe just for my record book.
6 fun runs with clients in the Little Las Lenas zone.
Again, Evan sniffed out good snow which is impressive because it’s tough to find right now.
We did try one run that was too steep with tough snow.
The rest of the runs held great recrystallized Alaskan Velvet that skied well.
It’s not deep, but it’s smooth and very responsive.
You don’t wanna get going too fast, but you can still rip it.
We ended the day on Mission Ridge and we all came home very happy.
I took off all my gear and stripped down to T-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops.
Then, the legendary Jason Champion came came up and said I was gonna go ski Snow Dome with the team.
I immediately ran out to the car, grabbed all my equipment, got dressed, and dialed in my gear.
We flew out after 5pm straight to the top of Snow Dome.
A large round-topped peak that towers over Port Valdez.
Two groups of Pulseline staff landed atop the peak and celebrated.
Hugs, smiles, high fives, and stoke.
The view up there is nuts with ocean and snow-capped peaks overwhelming the senses.
Gage dropped first and reported back good snow top to bottom.
All of the ground crew team dropped first.
They work hard and are the backbone of our operation.
Guides dropped second.
I chose a line on the skier’s right that lined up with a few super fun features.
I couldn’t believe how good the snow was.
It hasn’t snowed here since April 12 and this was the best snow I’d skied since April 13.
Champion knew somehow.
20 years of experience in the Chugach will do that to ya…
I rejoiced in the experience with my friends at the bottom of the run.
We were all blown away.
Had that been my only run of the entire season, I’d have been satisfied.
The lowers were hilarious with us skiing together through a Dr. Suess book of whip cream features and texture.
Then we went back up and had another!
Almost more fun the 2nd time knowing the snow quality and terrain.
Gratefulness oozed out of every pore.
Every word.
Every motion.
It still does.
Our second run was at about 7pm as the light hinted towards gold.
Thanks, Alaska!
