VIDEO: Too Deep? | One Insane Day Of Powder Skiing At Northstar, CA

Chris Wallner |

Went to Northstar Resort during the massive March dump in Tahoe. I got to the resort at 6AM and they closed I-80 in both directions around 8AM. That meant that the mountain was pretty much empty and had fresh tracks all day! The first half of the morning was actually too deep except on the steepest slopes, but with 3 feet of snow the mountain is basically flat. Then they opened the lookout tow rope to Martis and that’s when you could really get some high speed pow turns! I ended up skiing 35k ft of vertical that day.

  1. Seriously ? Flatstar ?
Is this really where snowbrains wants to be ? Northstar is the least steep ski resort in California . โ€œBasically flat with that much snow โ€œ

    1. Hey Steep Powder, we hear you. But powder skiing is powder skiing and good times are good times. We are 100% stoked on anyone who is having a good time skiing powder anywhere. Skiing powder in trees in always darn fun!

      1. Northstar is not an exciting place to ski powder, one itโ€™s horrendously expensive, two itโ€™s flat, three itโ€™s flat . Most of the season lookout mountain was closed for lack of snow, the reality of Northstar is that they will suffer because of their low elevation and lack of steep runs . Mammoth has the elevation and steeps and cheaper lift tickets , better food . Seriously Northstar for powder ??????

        1. Hey Steep Powder, we hear ya. This is just a video of a guy having a blast in powder. Thanks.
