According to News 4, an avalanche covered Mt. Rose Highway near the summit at 9:30pm on Monday, February 20th, 2017. State Route 431 was covered in up to 20 FEET of snow last night and it is still closed from Douglas Fir to Fairfield, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. It wasn’t reported if anyone was hurt by the avalanche. NHP Troopers and crews from the Nevada Department of Transportation were dispatched to the scene to work on snow removal, which is apparently still in process. Heavy snow, recent rain, and strong winds combined for nasty avalanche-prone conditions.
