Since 2008, The Winter Dew Tour has delivered one of the most highly anticipated freestyle skiing and snowboarding events. Breckenridge Ski Resort hosted the tour until 2020, when Copper Mountain Ski Resort took over the event. The Winter Dew Tour became an Olympic qualifier in 2013 for athletes competing in both skiing and snowboarding events. On September 22, Summit Daily reported that the Dew Tour event organizers will not host the Dew Tour in 2025.
The Winter Dew Tour was a four-day competition loaded with some of the most exciting events in the sport, such as:ย
- Menโs and Womenโs Freeski Slopestyle
- Menโs and Womenโs Freeski Superpipe
- Menโs and Womenโs Snowboard Slopestyle
- Menโs and Womenโs Snowboard Superpipe
- Ski Slopestyle & Halfpipeย Team Event
- Snowboard Slopestyle & Halfpipe Team Event
- Menโs Snowboard Streetstyle
- Menโs and Womenโs Adaptive Banked Slalom
In 2008, the Winter Dew Tour made stops at Breckenridge Ski Resort, Mount Snow Ski Resort, and Northstar California Ski Resort. The Dew Tour made multiple winter stops until 2012, when the Dew Tour cut it down to one winter stop in Breckenridge. The reduction to one winter stop stemmed from the increased saturation of extreme sports events making it harder to fill the roster with athletes.
In 2015, NBC Sports sold the Dew Tour to The Enthusiast Network (TEN).ย The Dew Tour was sold again in 2019 to American Media, LLC. The event seemed to be in perpetual change and in 2020, the Winter Dew Tour moved across Summit County to Copper Mountain.
It is unclear if the Dew Tour will return in the future, but the Dew Tour event organizers recognize the change in the ski industry and action sports. In conversation with Summit Daily, one of the event members said this in regard to the Dew Tour not returning this season.
โHowever, with the ever-evolving nature of sports and culture, change brings fresh opportunities for growth, excitement, and focus. This transition opens up different avenues for connection, celebration, and energizing refreshment.โ
This could potentially be referring to Shaun White’s brain child, The Snow League, which will debut on March 7, 2025 in Aspen, Colorado. Like the Winter Dew Tour, the Snow League will focus on freestyle snowboarding, but with a twist. The Snow League is delivering both head-to-head matchups as well as a season-long points system.
Regardless of why the Dew Tour is calling it quits this season, it was a great run that packed the slopes with incredible riders and skiers to throw down their best tricks in front of huge crowds and audiences.ย
