Winter Storm Warning New York City: 6-10″ Snow Forecasted

It’s not too often that NOAA issues a Winter Storm Warning for New York City but they have one active for right now. ย 6-10″ of snow are forecasted for New York City from this storm they’ve named “Hercules.” ย We’ll let NOAA do the talking.

...HEAVY SNOW...STRONG WINDS AND VERY COLD WIND CHILLS EXPECTED
INTO EARLY AFTERNOON...

* LOCATIONS...NEW YORK CITY...NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY AND SOUTHERN
  WESTCHESTER COUNTY.

* HAZARD TYPES...SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 6 TO 10 INCHES...WITH
  LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS.

* WINDS...NORTH 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH.

* WIND CHILLS...FROM FIVE BELOW ZERO TO AROUND 15 BELOW ZERO THIS
  MORNING...INCREASING TO AROUND ZERO THIS AFTERNOON. THE LOWEST
  VALUES WILL BE IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS OF NORTHEAST NEW JERSEY.

* VISIBILITIES...ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES.

* TEMPERATURES...6 TO 16 ABOVE.

* TIMING...THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WILL BE INTO THE MORNING RUSH
  HOUR. THE LOWEST WIND CHILLS AND VISIBILITIES WILL BE THROUGH
  AROUND MIDDAY.

* IMPACTS...HEAVY SNOWFALL...AND BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF POWDERY
  SNOW...MAINLY THIS MORNING...WILL CREATE DANGEROUS TRAVEL
  CONDITIONS AND COULD IMPACT SNOW PLOWING OPERATIONS. WIND CHILLS
  BELOW ZERO COULD LEAD TO FROSTBITE OR HYPOTHERMIA FOR ANYONE
  EXPOSED TO THE COLD. WIND CHILLS 15 BELOW OR COLDER WILL LEAD TO
  AN EVEN MORE RAPID ONSET OF HYPOTHERMIA.
