Woodward Copper Mountain, Colorado, will open its summer terrain park on Friday, June 7. The terrain park offers skiers and snowboarders the chance to enjoy various jibs and rails throughout the entire summer. The park, constructed using stored snow from nearby trails and the resort’s superpipe, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday through Sunday, as long as weather conditions permit. Tickets will be priced at $25.
The resort’s park crew manages the park, and makes all the magic happen to keep the patch in good condition throughout the summer. While they aim to stay open through the entire summer season, which ends September 8, weather uncertainties make it hard to guarantee. Last year, the park remained operational until mid August.
Copper Mountain uses a special snow preservation technique known as snow farming, which has been refined over the years with the help of advanced technology. Each spring, the snow from the mountain’s various terrain parks is consolidated into a central snow patch where Hike Park is located. The snow farming process is planned out and executed with the aid of GPS technology, which provides precise information on snow depth and location. This allows the park crew to strategically relocate snow from different parts of the mountain to Central Park. Essentially, a man-made glacier is created and maintained throughout the summer, offering the only lift-served terrain in Colorado.ย
Visitors can find the summer terrain park between the American Eagle and American Flyer chairlifts in Copperโs Center Village. Although Copper Mountain concluded its winter operations on May 12, the resort is excited to begin its summer season, which includes the summer terrain park along with hiking, mountain biking, and scenic lift rides.
