There are two types of people in this world—those who love winter and everyone else.

If you’re reading this, chances are you fall into the first category. You eagerly await the season’s first snowfall and dream of exploring a winter wonderland.

For people like my wife, however, who fall into the second category, winter means cold hands and feet and a desire to hibernate in bed. Winter sparks fear and anxiety. If only my wife had been introduced to the joy of winter as a child. Maybe she would share my passion for snow.

The dream for any snow-crazed enthusiast is to find a way to share their love of winter with others. Imagine a world where you don’t have to justify rushing out the door for first lift on a pow day. Instead, your family and friends rush out the door with you!

Enter World Snow Day, an initiative to introduce children worldwide to snow sports. Since 2012, The International Ski Federation (FIS) has held Winter Snow Day annually on the third Sunday of January to introduce children and their families to snow sports. It aims to inspire a lifelong love of winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and playing in the snow. This initiative is a global call to action for anyone who cares about winter sports and ensuring future generations can experience the joys of winter.

This year, on January 21, 2024, the 13th edition of World Snow Day will include 114 events in 38 countries. From discount ski lessons and free lift tickets in Europe, Asia, and even Dubai, the world is coming together to celebrate the joy of snow.

Participation in snow sports encourages children to get outdoors, exercise, and develop confidence and teamwork. Children who learn how to ski or snowboard at a young age can grow up with a passion for winter sports, and often, this will lead them to explore winter sports and broader winter recreational activities when they become adults.

The events planned for the 13th edition of World Snow Day will take place in countries across the globe, offering children a diverse range of opportunities to engage in winter sports. For all those winter lovers, pass on your passion. Share your love for the snow with children and inspire them to experience all that winter has to offer by encouraging friends and family to take part in World Snow Day 2024 and make memories in the snow!
