History was made on Sunday at the 2018 Winter X Games in Aspen, CO as Ayumu Hirano became the first snowboarder to ever land back-to-back 1440s in a halfpipe competition, scoring a near-perfect 99.00 to claim the gold medal in the Snowboard SuperPipe competition, reports tetongravity.com.
The 19-year-old Japanese wunderkind was already sitting on a score of 96.66 and in first place as he went into his third and final run.
It’s been great to see the athletes pushing the boundaries at this year’s games. There’s was a couple of historic firsts in the superpipe.
