Leaves are falling and snow is flying which means it’s that time of year to begin speculation of opening dates for ski resorts. The dates from each resort are based upon numerous factors including Fall weather and jet stream track forecasts, historical opening dates, and climatology specific to each resort. We look forward to begin sliding down snow in magnificent ways but must keep in mind that weather trumps all and these dates could very well be postponed.
2016 California Ski Resort Opening Dates
- Boreal — October 28th
- Mammoth — November 10th
- Mountain High — November 12th
- Alpine Meadows — Between November 11-18th
- Squaw Valley —Between November 11-18th
- Heavenly Ski Resort — November 18th
- Kirkwood — November 18th
- Northstar at Tahoe — November 18th
- Sierra-at-Tahoe — November 18th
- Snow Summit — November 18th
- Bear Mountain — November 24th
- Bear Valley — November 26th
- Snow Valley Mountain Resort — November 26th
- Donner Ski Ranch — December 3rd
- Dodge Ridge — December 9th
- Homewood — December 9th
- Tahoe Donner —December 9th
- June Mountain — December 10th
- Sugar Bowl — December 10th
- Mount Shasta Ski Park — December 15th
- Badger Pass — December 16th
- Mt. Baldy — December 27th
Hopefully we’ll get lucky and the snow gods deliver some early season goods to make these dates even earlier.
What about Mt. Rose?
Mt. Rose is technically located in the state of Nevada, although understandable why you would mistake that as they are right in the Lake Tahoe area. But the opening day listed on their website is Oct. 31st.
