***UPDATE as 7:30pm on May 12th***
Ugh… ย Mono County Tourism was incorrectย about Sonora Pass opening tomorrow. ย
Sonora Pass won’t actually open until Wednesday, May 18th. ย
Mark it, dude.
***ORIGINAL ARTICLE from May 11th***
Mono County Tourism is reporting that 9,624′ Sonora Pass (hwy 108) in CA will open this Friday, May 13th at noon. ย We aren’t sure if this opening is just from east to pass or all the way through. ย The backcountry skiing and riding off Sonora Pass is world class.
9,943′ Tioga Pass, CA will be opening tomorrow, May 12th, at noon from the east only.
There are rumors that 8,730′ Ebbetts Pass (hwy 4) will open this Friday the 13th at noon, as well. ย
Monitor Pass (hwy 89) is already open.
This Friday the 13th is looking to be a very lucky day for backcountry skiers and riders in California. ย
These 3 highway passes allow easy access to some of the best backcountry skiing in North America.
Get out there!

If anyone knows, Mike is the guy! He’s saved me many times trying to time the openings.
I called and spoke to CalTrans folks in Long Barn and Sonora Junction.
Eastern Sierra Tourism has updated thier Facebook post.
Heard from CalTrans a few minutes ago that 108 will not be opening until next Wednesday, May 18 due to a bridge project on the Mono County side.
Ugh.. Where did you hear this, Mikey? Can you send us a link? thanks!
