Mono County Tourism is reporting that 9,624′ Sonora Pass (hwy 108) in CA will open this Friday, May 13th at noon.  We aren’t sure if this opening is just from east to pass or all the way through.  The backcountry skiing and riding off Sonora Pass is world class.

9,943′ Tioga Pass, CA will be opening tomorrow, May 12th, at noon from the east only.

There are rumors that 8,730′ Ebbetts Pass (hwy 4) will open this Friday the 13th at noon, as well.

Monitor Pass (hwy 89) is already open.

3 amazing highway passes should be open this weekend for backcountry skiers and riders.

  1. I called and spoke to CalTrans folks in Long Barn and Sonora Junction.

Eastern Sierra Tourism has updated thier Facebook post.

  2. Heard from CalTrans a few minutes ago that 108 will not be opening until next Wednesday, May 18 due to a bridge project on the Mono County side.
