A second person has been confirmed killed after a glider crashed into the side of Slide Mountain, NV starting a wildfire near Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe Resort on Sunday, according to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office.ย The identity of the victims has yet to be released.
The aircraft took off from Truckee Tahoe airport, and the crash, which happened at about 2 pm, is suspectedย to have sparked a 64-acre wildfire just below the Mt. Rose Ski Resort on Slide Mountain. As of yesterday evening, that fire is 95 percent contained.ย Due to the location of the wreck site in steep and inaccessible terrain, Chief Deputy Russ Pederson said the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office used its RAVEN helicopter to recoverย the bodies.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
