9,624′ Sonora Pass, CA Will NOT Open Today As Scheduled Due To Approaching Snowstorm

9,624′ Sonora Pass, CA was scheduled to open today at noon.  10 minutes before noon, Caltrans announced that they would not be opening the pass due to the approaching snowstorm.

Caltrans will reassess the situation on Saturday and make another announcement.

Some of the best spring backcountry skiing/riding in North America can be very easily accessed via Sonora Pass.

“SONORA PASS/SR-108 REMAINS CLOSED INTO SATURDAY

SONORA PASS/SR-108 in Tuolumne County: Due to approaching storm, Sonora Pass will not open today. Status will be re-assessed Saturday. Tioga Pass/SR-4 are scheduled to remain closed into July, due to major road damage.” – Caltrans district 9
