US Alpine skier Alice Merryweather suffered serious injuries last week after crashing at 80-mph during a training run at Saas-Fee in Switzerland.
Graphic images posted to her Instagram show the extent of her injuries, which include a broken tibia and fibula, and a scraped-up and swollen face.
Hi everyone. The good news is that I am okay! The bad news is that I took a spill training downhill in Saas Fee on Wednesday and have a broken tibia and fibula. We are still waiting on more clarity around the extent of the damage done to my knee. Iโve already had a successful surgery for my leg here in Switzerland, and they are taking the absolute best care of me ๐ Now Iโm looking forward to flying home in the next few days.
I want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in this process so far. To my coaches, doctors, physios, helicopter pilots, teammates, friends, and family – I wouldnโt be feeling โokayโ if it werenโt for you all. The recovery to come looks a lot different than my last, but if I can rewire my brain I think I can heal some bone and ligaments too. Thank you all for your support. ❤️❤️

The 25-year-old, from Massachussettes, sat out last season to focus on health and happiness as she pursuedย intensive treatment for an eating disorder, US Ski and Snowboard report. This upcoming season was supposed to be her comeback year, and by all accounts, was skiing strong and enjoying it again.
Merryweather will return home for further evaluation on her injuries and join her family and teammate, and boyfriend, Sam DuPratt (who is himself recovering from a double leg break sustained at Val Gardena, Italy last December).
