Alta Ski Area has surpassed 400 inches of snowfall for the season, hitting 402 inches as of this week. The milestone follows a slow start to winter in the Wasatch, where early-season snowfall was below average and snowpack stability was a serious concern.

Avalanche activity was elevated in the early months, with several fatalities reported across the region. Conditions have since stabilized, and the snowpack across the central Wasatch is now sitting near average for this time of year.
In lieu of the recent snowfall, Alta shared a conditions update on its Instagram on Monday, writing:
โ52.5 inches of snow fell this week as our season-to-date snowfall eclipsed 400 inches. Settled snow depth is now 11 feet as Alta was open wall-to-wall today. More snow on the way this week. โ๏ธโ
Altaโs recent totals have been boosted by a series of March storms, and another two feet of snow is in the forecast between Wednesday and Friday this week. While 400 inches is fairly typical for Alta in a good year, this seasonโs path to that number hasnโt necessarily been the smoothest.
With more snow on the way and spring skiing around the corner, Alta is heading into the second half of March with renewed momentum.
