No stranger to receiving the most snow in North America, Alyeska Resort, Alaska, is at it again. Yesterday’s 20″ dump took the ski area past 300″ for the season. The resort has seen 304″ of fresh snow this season and has a 115″ base.
Considering it’s still early January, that’s an incredible totalโmore than most resorts will see all season.
Alyeska averages 650โณ of snowfall on the upper mountain and 512โณ of snowfall at mid-mountain. The biggest year on record was 2012, with 978โณ of snowfall.
The resort was closed yesterday, Sunday, January 12, as a tropical storm brought high winds and heavy precipitation.ย However, a further 40″ are forecast in the next few days, so conditions should just get better and better.
The world record for a ski area is 1,140โณ at Mt. Baker ski area, WA, in 1998/99.
