Last weekend, Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, Colorado, officially opened the East Wall for the 2023-24 winter season. The East Wall is without a doubt one of the best areas at A-Basin, with dozens of break-neck lines and seemingly endless expert terrain. This also means that as of March 9, the resort now has all of its terrain pods open for the 2023-2024 season. The East Wall has opened intermittently as limited or directed openings over the past few weeks but is now officially open to the public for hike-to-skiing and riding.

To hike the East Wall is to experience one of The Legend’s biggest adventures. Make your way to the summit and enjoy A-Basin’s most spectacular views and some of its most extreme terrain. Guests can access the East Wall chutes from the Lenawee Express and then use the hiking and bootpacking routes to spend an entire day (or lifetime) exploring.

Opening the East Wall is no small task and has seen Arapahoe Basin’s Mountain Operations and Ski Patrol teams working diligently over the last couple of weeks and storm cycles to ensure a safe opening. It typically opens around mid-March as the terrain requires a ton of natural snow to cover the rocky and exposed terrain while also needing avalanche mitigation to make it safe for skiers and riders.
